Family-friendly - kids love it.

Monheim am Rhein – a model city offering numerous benefits. A small modern city that offers a dynamic, lively atmosphere on one hand and an idyllic setting perfect for unwinding and enjoying the high quality of life on the other. A paradise for families whose surroundings ensure that both young and old feel completely at home. We also believe that there is a lot more we can do in the future too.

My Monheim am Rhein.

What makes Monheim am Rhein such a loveable, worthwhile place to live? Just ask the people who live here. That’s why we've included the voices of Monheim’s residents here.

Facts and figures about the city

Monheim am Rhein (the administrative district of Düsseldorf, county of Mettmann) is located between the Rhine metropolises of Cologne and Düsseldorf in the most populated federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city has more than 43,000 residents, approximately two thirds of whom are attributed to the district of Monheim and one third to the district of Baumberg.

A fair deal.

Monheim am Rhein has been recognised as a fair-trade city. We have joined forces to promote fair trade. In order to acquire this seal of quality, the city’s administration, catering businesses and retail businesses banded together. Schools, parishes and clubs also got involved.

Current construction projects

Rheinpromenade entrance to the city

The project “Stadteingang Rheinpromenade” (Rheinpromenade entrance to the city) will unite the attractive city centre and the Rheinpromenade in a lively manner increasing the value of both areas. Furthermore, new, highly attractive residential and business buildings with a view of the Rhine are being built at the entrance to the city. Development of the grounds begins in 2016 and construction is scheduled to begin in early 2017.

Landing piers

There’s a ship on the horizon – and many more on their way. In 2016, the city plans to build a pier to the northwest of the old centre. It will be anchored across from the Marienkapelle chapel on the Rheinpromenade. The goal is to have the first boats and hotel ships up to 135 metres in length dock here in early 2017. In addition to the piers for hotel and excursion boats, there are also fixed mooring points for the Piwipper Böötchen, Monheim’s bicycle and passenger ferry to Dormagen as well as for the watercraft of the fire brigade and German Lifesaving Federation.

Expansion of Wi-Fi and fibre-optic network

Monheim am Rhein boasts excellent analogue and digital network access. The installation of an area-wide fibre-optic network began in early 2015 in order to provide access for all private households and commercial operators with transfer rates in excess of 200 Mbit/s. In addition to the fibre optic network, a free, area-wide Wi-Fi network requiring no login is currently being made available by the city’s services and is set to be expanded within the entire urban area to keep visitors, but also people enjoying a stroll through the city well connected.
